Katra is a small town and 48kms from Jammu. Enjoy the auspicious trip to the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages which is reached after a long climbing of 13kms trek. Trikuta Hills, where the shrine is located is blessed with natural beauty. The snow capped peaks and fresh mountain air is a life time experience.

Katra Town (0 km) :

Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located. It is part of the Reasi District and is located 42 km from the city of Jammu.

Banganga (1 km)

On the way the goddess felt thirsty at Banganga and shot an arrow into the earth from where water gushed out. Charan Paduka, which is marked by the imprints of her feet, is the place where she rested.

Charan Paduka (2.5km)

Charan Paduka Temple is one of the religious sites. According to the mythological tales, Goddess Durga made a halt at the site when Bhairav Nath was chasing her. Positioned at an altitude of 3,380 ft, the site of holy footprints is one of the highlights of the destination.

Adh Kanwari (6 km):

The Goddess then meditated in the cave at Adh Kanwari. It took Bhairon nine months to locate her, which is why the cave is known as Garbh Joon. When the demon found her, Mata Vaishno Devi blasted an opening at the other end of the cave with her trident and fled to the Holy cave at Darbar(temple).

Him Koti (8.5 km)

Himkoti is visited by tourists as the sight gives a beautiful view of the entire valley. It is situated at a distance of 2.75 km from Adhkunwari on the new track. The sight does not have any traditional or religious significance but is visited only because of its natural splendour.

Sanjhichhat(9.5km)

Sanjhichhat is a picturesque spot with enchanting views of the valley and snow covered peaks of the Himalayan ranges on a clear day. Sanjichhat is the highest point on the old track and is also the end of the uphill climb.

Bhawan (13 Km)

The Holy Bhawan houses the Sanctum Sanctorum – the Holy cave which is the ultimate destination of the yatries. Inside the Holy Cave the Goddess has revealed herself in the form of Holy Pindies manifesting Mata in her three forms Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Mata Saraswati.

Bhairon Temple(14.5 km)

The journey to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji is not considered complete without Darshans at Bhairon Temple. The Bhairon Temple is located at a distance of 1.42 kilometers from Bhawan. It is situated atop an adjacent hill and again involves a steep climb, which can be undertaken either on foot or on ponies or palanquins.
